[IC Information]
Character Name: Queen Elsa of Arendelle
Series: Frozen
Gender: Female
Age: 21.
Species: Human

Appearance: Elsa is very pale, both because she has ice magic and because she is a total shut-in. Her hair is basically white, and currently worn in a long braid over one shoulder, with sparkly snowflakes in it because snowflakes. She's more known for complex up-dos, which she can do entirely on her own; despite having servants, she never let any of them very close to her, so she's fairly self-sufficient in terms of caring for herself and her own living space. She's slender, but lacks any real muscle, since she doesn't get much exercise.

At the time of apping, she is wearing a long gown and cape that appear to be made entirely of ice crystals. They move like cloth and will not melt - the jury's out on whether or not they can be torn. She's also wearing ice high heels, but she is surprisingly good at maneuvering quickly in them; she never slips or slides on ice unless she intends to.

Personality: Elsa's life is one that has largely been dominated by fear. She is afraid of her powers; afraid that she'll accidentally hurt someone, afraid that people will label her as a monster if they know. She harbors a great deal of guilt and self-loathing due to her childhood accident with Anna, as well as her continued inability to properly bring her ice under control. Her parents preached a regimen of self-control and emotional repression to do so, so she feels her failures are entirely her fault; if she could keep herself under control like a proper Queen, these things wouldn't happen.

Outwardly, she is quite good at keeping up a calm Queenly mantle. Her emotions can be hard to read for those who don't know her well, as she tends to try and pretend she isn't feeling anything at all. She has a certain grace and poise that lends itself to this, only half-born of nerves. Even as a child, she was generally collected and calm, especially in comparison to her sister. This knowledge of how to present as a royal keeps her from being nearly as awkward as her sister in social situations, despite having grown up in the same isolated conditions. However, it only works when she holds people at arm's length. Allowing anyone to grow close to her is a terrifying prospect, and she likely wouldn't know what to do except retreat. Because of this, she can often come off as very cold and aloof.

Inwardly, Elsa craves social interaction and acceptance. Not to the extent that Anna does - she's more reserved and quiet simply by nature - but her separation from everyone, including her sister, pains her deeply. Elsa still loves Anna dearly, despite having not really interacted with her for thirteen years. Secretly, she's a very nurturing person. Even as a child, she was very good at taking care of her younger sister, and even after their long separation is easily able to act playfully with her. She also cares greatly about her kingdom and wants to do what's best for her subjects. More than anything, this aspect of her personality turns against her; she's willing to accept any amount of personal suffering if she believes it's for the safety of others, and when she believes that she has accidentally killed Anna, she is willing to die herself.

Despite her fear of inadvertently hurting others, Elsa is perfectly willing to defend herself if she is attacked, even with possibly lethal force. Fighting would never be her first option, but she can become very dangerous when cornered.

Abilities:
- Ice magic: Elsa can create ice and snow, and control them to an extent. Theoretically she can melt them, but that's not something she's learned to do yet at her canonpoint. Her ice creations can become incredibly elaborate, and she also knows how to keep them from ever melting if she so desires. She can also create living, sapient snow/ice creatures, but at this point in canon she is unaware of that particular facet of her abilities.

Conversely, her magic reacts to her emotions and is mostly uncontrolled, especially under times of stress. When alone, she can control it fairly well, save for the lack of thawing ability, but other people stress her out and make her lose that control.

- Elemental resistance: She just doesn't get cold. Ever.

- Queen stuff: Probably has training in Queen stuff; diplomacy, negotiation, things like that. Has never practiced these skills in a real-world context.

- Mathematics: Other materials have mentioned her interest in geometry, and she does appear to have the makings of a good architect. Her ice palace is quite well-constructed, especially for how quickly she did it.

Items: None

History: First-born daughter of the King and Queen of Arendelle, Elsa's early life was very nearly perfect. She was born with ice powers, but they were weaker and easier to control when she was younger. They very rarely emerged when she didn't want them to, and she often used them to entertain and play with her little sister, Anna.

But everything changed when she was eight and the Fire Nation attacked one night she accidentally struck Anna directly with her powers, knocking her unconscious and partially freezing her. Their parents took both girls to a local tribe of trolls for help. The trolls healed Anna, but were forced to remove her memories of Elsa's magic as well. They also stressed to the royals that their eldest daughter needed to learn to control her powers, or fear would be her enemy. They did this while showing some scary illusions of Elsa getting attacked by an angry mob, which was on the whole a terrible idea. Trolls: bad at communication.

In order to keep both of their daughters safe, the King and Queen closed the castle gates and ordered Elsa to remain in isolation, especially from her sister, until such time as she could get her powers under control. Elsa was saddened by this loss of freedom and companionship, of course, but the accident with Anna was deeply traumatic. She was willing to endure isolation if it would keep her sister safe.

So, she spent the next thirteen years largely alone in her room, completely failing to learn anything more about her powers as they grew stronger and stronger. Her parents tried to help her, but they focused on repression rather than control, which only made the problem worse. Gloves, they discovered, could help to keep Elsa's abilities somewhat under wraps, but they weren't a perfect solution. Elsa's anxiety only grew worse as time went on; eventually she refused to allow even her parents to touch her.

When she was eighteen, her parents left on a sea voyage for the first time since she was small, depriving her of her only source of human contact. She was upset enough when she thought it was only temporary. Then, the royal ship was capsized in a storm. Anna buried their parents alone. Elsa was too overcome with emotion to leave her room, for fear of bringing the snow and ice with her.

Three years later, Elsa came of age, and was officially crowned as Queen of Arendelle. Despite her nerves, she kept her powers a secret throughout the ceremony and even managed to enjoy herself a little bit at the ball with Anna. Things took a quick turn for the worse, however, when Anna announced her intention to marry a prince she had just met. Elsa refused to give the couple her permission to marry, ordering the celebration to end and everyone to leave, and the two sisters fought. Anna eventually tore one of Elsa's gloves off and caused her to have an emotional outburst, accidentally creating a wall of icicles between herself and the guests. Her secret now out in the open, and already seeing that she was scaring her subjects, Elsa took the opportunity to flee, freezing the fjord as she ran to the snow-covered North Mountain.

Reaching the mountain safely and seeing that she wasn't currently being pursued, Elsa finally began to process what had just happened to her. Initially she was grief-stricken at losing everything she had known, but it wasn't very long before she realized - her life had basically sucked anyway! Shedding her remaining glove, she threw herself into experimenting freely with her powers for the first time since she was a child.

Her fun - and it was fun, the first she'd had in years - culminated in fashioning an enormous castle of ice on the side of the mountain. Here, Elsa determined that she would remain. She'd be alone, but that was nothing new to her; it was worth it if she could finally be herself without worrying about hurting others.

First-Person Communicator Sample: [She's set the communicator down on a table, and quickly moves to stand in front of it with her hands clasped behind her back. Deep breath, lift the chin, straighten the back...alright.]

Hello. I am Queen Elsa of Arendelle. I arrived here earlier this evening, and have already found a place to stay, so please don't worry about me. I will remain here until the situation is resolved.

And...I am not currently receiving guests, so don't come looking for me. Please.

[At that, she quickly moves forward and shuts it off before anyone can say anything. She hadn't even been sure that was a good idea, honestly, but some people already know she's here. Word is going to spread. If she introduces herself now - particularly in a not very friendly manner - maybe she can at least ward off some curious visitors.]
